FAQ

Q: Why should I see an acupuncturist?

A: There are several reasons why you should consider an acupuncture treatment. Most commonly, pain conditions sciatica, muscle tension, or even migraine headaches have much more success than conventional treatment. However, acupuncture is also considered preventative medicine. It’s a natural, holistic medical approach to healthcare that keeps your body and mind strong.

Q: Can acupuncture help me even if I feel healthy?

A: Yes, absolutely. Many patients come in for regular maintenance treatments to stay in “tip-top” condition so they can fully enjoy life. Acupuncture is a powerful preventative measure to keep patients healthy throughout the year.

Q: Does acupuncture hurt?

A: The vast majority of patients do not consider acupuncture a painful procedure. Some patients feel a slight “Qi” sensation when the needle is inserted: most feel nothing at all. These “Qi sensations” range from warmth or tingling to a brief ache or heaviness in the area being needled.

Q: Are the needles safe?

A: Yes. Acupuncturists use sterile, disposable needles. They are used once and then disposed of in biohazard containers. These containers are sent to a medical waste management company for proper disposal according to federal laws and regulations.

Q: Are there any side effects of acupuncture?

A: Yes, the side effects of acupuncture are generally positive: Improved digestion, betters sleep, and overall feeling of “well-being.” Joking aside, one reason acupuncture has been so well embraced may have to do with its low rate of side effects. The most common side effects may be mild fatigue for hours following treatment. Acupuncture is an energetic workout, so it makes sense that one might report fatigue after a treatment, just as if they had gone for a 3-mile run. Another occasional after-effect might be a small bruise on the skin. However, these do not hurt and are few and far between. 99% of the time, there isn’t any bruising.

Q: Does my insurance cover acupuncture?

A: It might? Most insurance companies acknowledge Acupuncture to be a viable medical healing modality and cover varying amounts depending on a few factors, the most important of which is your carrier and individual policy.
